A Weekend Getaway at Siquijor...

          I just want to share my experience going to Siquijor.  It was a short vacation though but it was a blast! 'twas a very long trip I must say but all is worth it! We rode a bus at South Bus Terminal around 1pm, arrived at Santander almost 5.30pm. Had to run inorder to catch up the boat going to Dumaguete. When we get to Dumaguete, We had to tell the tricycle driver to drive fast inorder to catch up for the boat going to Siquijor. It was like we were always chasing for the ride. Very exhausting trip but awesome experience. Then finally we arrived at Lazi, Siquijor around 9pm, we had our dinner then we had to travel to Maria (another town in Siquijor) and we stayed at Salagdoong Beach Resort. We get to visit all 6 towns in Siquijor and had seen almost all their tourist spot. My favorite was going to Cambugahay falls. They've got beautiful white sand beaches down there. I would recommend going to Siquijor to people who would want to relax and unwind.

I got this message today from my Mafia admin at Facebook. And I thought I should share this to all you guys out there. Regardless if this is true or not, extra precaution should be done rather than get your PC crash and be sorry..

receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called 'invitation' , though
sent by a friend , do not open it and shut down your
computer immediately. This is the worst virus
announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft
as the most destructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and
there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This
virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard
Disc, where the vital information is kept

Hatton vs Pacquiao "EAST meets WEST"

Given the one-sided beating Manny Pacquiao administered to Oscar De La Hoya in December, many boxing 'experts' predict Pac Man will simply steamroll Ricky Hatton in this Saturday's pay-per-view megabout in Las Vegas. Not so fast. While Pacquiao fully deserves to be favored by oddsmakers (-250/+200), there's no reason to believe that this will be anything other than a competitive - and highly entertaining - bout.

Hatton is a strong, natural light welterweight who - at 30 and under the tutelage of Floyd Mayweather Sr. - is in his athletic prime. The Hitman has only lost once and that was by tenth round TKO to pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2007. He has since bounced back with solid wins over Juan Lazcano and Pauli Malignaggi.

Pacquiao - also 30 - began his professional career at 106 pounds (he was just one month past his 16th birthday at the time!) but has grown into a full-fledged junior welterweight. It's debatable whether or not De La Hoya was washed-up when he quit after absorbing eight rounds of punishment from Pacquiao. What is not debatable, however, is that Pacquiao looked awesome.

Prediction: Hatton is strong and fast and has his moments but Pacquaio is just a little stronger and a little faster. Pacquiao by decision or possibly a late TKO

I wish both fighters best of luck. I bet everybody especially boxing fans will enjoy this great fight. They're both eager to win, at the end of the final round only one man will be declared the winner pound for pound king that is. In my opinion, although Ricky Hatton is much bigger than Manny Pacquiao, still he is the Under dog in this fight. A lot of people bets for the Pacman. Well the answer is just few hours away.. What you need to know about the Swine Flu or the Human Swine Influenza A (H1N1) virus that has hit Mexico, the United States, Canada, and other parts of the world.

What is Swine Flu?

Swine Influenza or swine flu is a type of respiratory disease in pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. The disease is normally not passed on to people but human infections can and do happen. A few cases of swine flu viruses have been reported to spread from person to person but in the past, transmission was only limited and not sustained beyond three people.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of swine flu in humans?

The symptoms are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever (temperature above 38 degrees Celsius or 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit), cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills, aching joints, nasal congestion and fatigue. Some people with swine flu also have reported diarrhea and vomiting. Like seasonal flu, swine flu may cause a worsening of underlying chronic medical conditions.

How does swine flu spread?

The swine flu virus can be directly transmitted from pigs to people and from people to pigs. Human infection are most likely to occur when people are in close proximity to infected pigs such as in pig barns (babuyan). Human-to-human transmission is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu, which is mainly through uncovered coughs and sneezes or by touching your mouth or nose with unwashed hands.

How can a person get infected by the swine flu virus?

A person can get infected if he/she touches something contaminated with the virus and then touches the eyes, mouth or nose. The virus can live on surfaces for several hours, like a doorknob just touched by someone who sneezed into his hand. Germs also spread in the air through droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person.

Can people catch swine flu by eating pigs or pork?

According to scientists and doctors, the swine influenza virus is NOT transmitted by food. Eating properly handled and well-cooked pork and pork products is safe. Cooking pork at a temperature of 160°F kills the swine flu virus as it does other bacteria and viruses.

How to protect or prevent oneself from getting infected?

There is currently no vaccine available yet to protect against swine flu. For now, these steps can help protect your health:

• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth because germs spread this way.
• Stay in good general health. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
• Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
• If you get sick with influenza, stay home and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

What should be done if a person is showing swine flu symptoms?

Stay home and avoid contact with other people as much as possible to keep from spreading your illness to others.  If you become ill and experience any of the following warning signs, seek medical care as soon as possible.

In children emergency warning signs that need urgent medical attention include:

• Fast breathing or trouble breathing
• Bluish skin color
• Not drinking enough fluids
• Not waking up or not interacting
• Being so irritable that the child does not want to be held
• Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
• Fever with a rash

In adults, emergency warning signs include:

• Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
• Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
• Sudden dizziness
• Confusion
• Severe or persistent vomiting

Got this one in my email just today, my friend forwarded it to me. I couldn't believe it. Well, at first I thought it's just sort of "panira" to our dear Madam President. TOTAL MOTION RELEASE (TMR)

A colleague of mine once told me about this technique called total motion release otherwise known as TMR. He is now working in Florida and he has attended the said seminar conducted by Mr Tom Baker himself, the founder of TMR. This technique is basically the exact opposite of what we PT's used to study. Opposite in the sense that we actually treat the good side or the unaffected side of the patient instead of the traditional ways we knew which is to treat the affected area. I just wanted to share this information to my fellow Physical Therapist because even myself couldn't believe the amazing effects it gave to my patients. Seeing patients who's suffering from severe pain and just by few minutes of this exercise, all the pains turns into smiles.. If you guys wanna try it out, I added a link under the Physical Therapy section.. I love my job and I hope to see more smiles and wow in the rehab center..

Finally! My cockatiel is laying eggs!

I just found out last saturday that my lutino cockatiel has 1 egg inside their nestbox. I do hope they could produce more than 3 eggs in their clutch. While the female tiel comes out from the nestbox to eat and bathe, the male would then take turn to get inside the box. They're so lovely to look at. I can just imagine the tension and thrill they've been through considering it's their first time to have babies (hopefully). It was such a big surprise though coz they're both 10months old all the while I thought it isn't possible to be able to produce eggs at a very young age. I hope and pray that there wont be any problems with their health as far as nesting is concern. Right now, I provide them lots of water, sunflower, cuttlebone for calcium and veggies.. Can't wait to see their baby tiels!!

Integrated Neuromuscular Taping Therapy INMTT

I just would like to share to my fellow Physical Therapist the experienced we've had during our seminar here in Cebu with Mr. Valentin Dones, III. The seminar was hosted by Cebu Doctors' University Hospital, Rehabilitation Medicine Department last February 2009. It was a big success. A lot of PT's from Visayas and Mindanao attended the said seminar. Sir Val shared a lot of information and one of my favorite was the Taping technique.

The Integrated Neuromuscular Taping Therapy (INMTT) is designed to promote motion in the functional pain-free range. It uses tapes which are locally available. (The ones we've used are Leukoplast and transparent transpore) It has been proven in various case studies that it helps relieve pain and improve range of motion in patients with musculoskeletal syndrome. It relies on simple yet effective manual therapy techniques with use of tape to promote improvement. 

I even tried it when I had pain over my right shoulder few weeks ago and i asked my colleague to apply the tape on the painful area. The following day the pain was gone. Been suffering from that shoulder pain for 3 days already and with just one tape, the pain disappeared. We even tried it to one of our patients who had frozen shoulder with very limited range of motion. With the tape on, patient was able to do shoulder flexion without any pain and ROM was around 150 degrees. 

The tapes should be on for about 24 hours but in the event that the patient experiences itchiness, remove it right away.

A big thanks to Sir Val for imparting his knowledge on us. That way, we could be of help to our patients who are in great pain for that matter. And I do hope that PT's could also apply this amazing technique...

Taming an African Lovebird

I just want to share my tamed african lovebird. His name is Kobe (obviously I'm a big fan of L.A. Lakers eversince :p) Got this baby last February 28, 2009, He was a month old then, not used to being around with people. Still had to feed him by using a syringe and everywhere I go, I bring him with me. I used to think taming birds would be difficult, well to be honest somehow it is hard but I was determined and I've always had this passion for birds that's my driving force.
This month Kobe will be 2 months old, he's gotten so big and healthy. He eats seeds, fruits and vegetables. I play with him the moment I come home til I get to sleep and in the morning I let him play around the house while im eating, kisses him goodbye and i'm off to work..
